Worksheets are great, and we use them all of the time. They usually require a pencil or a crayon, but it's always a good thing to add some 3D effects to it all in order to help the kids remember what they are doing. OR you can get rid of the worksheet altogether and create your own. Above, the "A", the color red, and an apple in regard to the Fall season.
"B" for bat, just in time for Halloween.
"C" for chicken, kids LOVE to use feathers.
"D" for dinosaur, fun! http://belladia.typepad.com/.a/6a00d8341cc08553ef01157046e262970c-pi
The link above will take you to some more alphabet ideas. I know with the group of kids I have right now, the more hands on, the easier it is for them to learn!
