Pounding Flowers

I picked some flowers on Monday and popped them into a milk bottle.  I love the giant orange Poppies, but they didn't last long in the vase.  Yesterday morning the petals were all laying on the counter top.  I had an idea- pound the color out of them.  Don't have flowers? Pound leaves, grass, weeds, anything you can find.
Here we lay to rest, two giant oriental poppies.  The petals look like they still have life in them, so sad when they fall from the flower! We have this small utility hammer that I thought would be perfect for small hands.  You can use a rock or a block for this project as well.
First the kids chose what part they would like to pound.
Bang..bang..bang.. we used our small plastic kids table for this project to prevent dents to the kitchen table.  You could use a cutting board underneath the paper if you don't want to damage your table, or even go outside and do this on the cement.
We were excited to see the color that was transferring onto the paper!
We pounded every part of the flowers. Stem, petals, stamen.
They were very happy to be able to pound something with the small hammer!
Then we learned that we can bunch up the giant petals and rub them on the paper like crayons to create some smudges.  So cool!
Instant marker!
All of that color from a few flower petals- so cool!  Happy Thursday!♥♥♥
Song for today is now playing at Henle House. Good Lovin' by The Rascals.♫
