I am passionate about candles. Especially when the weather turns! Last fall, we created some beautiful votive holders and decided to do it again this year, only using a different design.
Here is what you will need: an empty jar, tissue paper squares, paintbrush, Elmer's glue and water.
Pour some glue into a small container. We used recycled applesauce cups. Add just a little bit of water and stir together until it is smooth. We want it to be watery, but not TOO much.
Simply hold a tissue paper square up to the outside of the jar and paint over the top of it with the water/glue mixture to secure it into place. Do this until the entire outside of the jar is covered. Use all white if you are creating a ghost votive, all orange for a jack-o-lantern.
This takes a little bit of time! Sometimes the tissue paper bunches up, that's ok! Just throw another one over the top of it. Problem solved.
Once covered, use black tissue paper facial features. Now it is ready to dry!
Place your luminary upside down on a paper plate. This allows the bottom to dry without sticking to the paper.
Now they are ready to light! I love this project because they look good even before lighting.
Even better AFTER lighting! We all crammed into the bathroom to see how great they looked!
Want to create one that will last you all season? Just use red, orange, yellow and brown tissue squares and tie it off with some twine. Beautiful glow=relaxed and warm feeling in the home.
