It's amazing to me the difference in school spirit when one moves from Junior High to High School. Our daughter Stephanie is a freshman at Snohomish High School, the school who consistently gets voted "Most School Spirit" in the Best Of Western Washington contest. (So much so that last year the principal felt bad and bowed out of the contest in order to let someone else win.) This year, they are already ahead in the poll again. Stephanie has the annual Serpentine parade today at school in honor of homecoming. She needed some fun red and white gear to wear. She asked me for help. I didn't know what to do.
We found one of the Machias Youth T shirts- since Machias Youth no longer exists, we donated the shirt to Stephanie to do with what she needed to do. It is the perfect red! We checked Pinterest for some ideas about shredding t-shirts. We resorted to just going with it. I got out the scissors and started cutting. It felt VERY 1980. (Don't tell Steph.) We cut slits in the shoulders and sleeves, cut off about 4 inches of the bottom of the shirt and cut vertical strips there.
We needed the sewing machine because the shoulders were just not strong enough to withstand wear. I sewed a strip right down the middle of the slits to keep it secure. It looks kind of like a set of rib bones.
She said she was really happy that this verse is on the back of it.
Here she is this morning, all decked out for school. Go Snohomish! Isn't she pretty? Can't believe this is my 5 pound baby.
Our busy Chippy returned yesterday. We have actually seen him a lot lately but he hasn't come to the door because he is busy collecting and eating apples. Yesterday he saw me at the computer and came over.
Petra made sure to intimidate.
It was ultimately baby Zuko who chased him away. I moved the rest of his nuts into the apple tree. He knows where to find them.
I almost forgot to tell you- the camera is fixed!! It was never broken to begin with. My father-in-law showed me that a switch had been turned to manual focus. The whole time. No more death by fuzzy photos. Phew! (Feeling sheepish.)
